Hello all, about 1-2 weeks ago I noticed that in the most peripheral part of my vision I have started getting small flashes of light appearing. It happens about 2-6 times a day. I've never had them before and wonder why they have appeared. I should also point out that it is predominantly the right eye that I'm getting them.

Is it anything to be concerned about? I've looked on the net but the wealth of disinformation doesn't really help, so I thought I'd try a more direct route and ask on here as some people give informed opinion.

Thanks

The sudden appearance of these flashes or objects may indicate retinal problems and is best reviewed by an eye specialist, especially if associated with vision disturbances.

Google "eye floaters" and see if these are what you have..

.......

It's also my idea: danger of retina detachment. Hurry up and contact a competent specialist. Avoid physical stress.

That's why they invented ophthalmologists. Go find one, NOW.

As others have said, you need to have a retinal examination.

See an opthalmologist (opthalmologist, not optician)

They will need to dilate your pupils with eye drops so you will not be able to drive home, so plan accordingly.

What should then happen is that the doctor puts drops in the affected eye, waits a while, then examines your eye with a bright light asking you to look in different directions, it should be a thorough proceeding that moves the eye in all possible directions so that the entire retina is visualized to see if any tears or signs of detachment.
