I Have A Tr Can I Change To O Retirement Or O Marriage

Featured Replies

I am arriving in Thailand at the end of Jan on a 'TR' 60 day visa. All being well I will be married in Feb.

Can I convert it to a multi entry 'O' retirement or Marriage visa?

Appreciate advice and help from this great forum

That would be possible, but immigration might send you to Bangkok to do so.

You would need to show an income of 40,000 baht per month (can be from abroad) or 400,000 THB in an acount in Thailand in your name.

Depending on where you live, it might be easier to just get a non-O visa in a neighbouring country.

Quick reply - thanks

I have about 600k in my Kbank account. I will be staying in Chiang Saen but need to return to Australia often

You can not convert to a multi entry visa inside Thailand but with 400k for marriage or 800k for retirement you can obtain a single entry in the extension of stay process and then extend for one year 60 days later for either Thai wife or Retirement. For travel that would require re-entry permits. So you might want to visit a Consulate outside Thailand to obtain a normal multi entry non immigrant O visa and use that rather than extend.

Then don't forget a re-entry permit, or get a mutiple non-O visa once married in Oz. A multiple non-O will allow you to come and go for 1 year, each time you come you can stay for up to 90 days. After that you have to leave but can come right back in for another 90 days. By leaving and re-entering just before the visa expires you can get almost 15 months out of it.
