can anyone recommend a place on the island (samui) where you can buy cooked food at 3-4am ? mae nam/bo phut area would be a plus.

There is a very good 24 hour restaurant in Nathon just before the Kasikorn bank on the right hand side before the end of the one way system. Very good cheap Thai food. Other than that you need to be heading to Chawang or Lamai and run the gauntlet of ladyboys
