Buying Tires On Ebay

Featured Replies

Is it best to buy cycle tires (inner tubes and outer) locally or can it be easily done on Ebay etc from overseas - prices look very reasonable? I ask because my 29inc rims are hard to find locally, and was wondering if customs will be a problem? Just looking for a couple of outer and inner spares for my bike? I can always wait for local shop to get some stock I suppose, whenever that may be.

I've ordered Schwalbe tires on 2 occasions because the particular model was ont available in Thailand. The first time I paid some customs tax but the second shipment came in duty free. I've encountered no problems ordering many things from Ebay & Amazon as well as other vendors. Sometimes the customs people levy a fee sometimes not.

Hi fdimike,

Sounds great with little or no customs taxes. Iam considering buying of ebay myself, but I was afraid there would be to much hazzle with customs.

From which country did you order your items, as Iam havning no knowledge of the Thai postal services/customs I don't know what to expect for xtra delivery time in thailand compared to Europe.

I may give it a try then. Recently was in Bangkok at the only Specialized shop in the country I think(?) and even they had no stock or plans to import for my Hard Rock. Ended up buying generic road tires out of ProBike in mean time.

I bought my tires from a US based bike shop. I did everything on line without a hitch. Typical shipping time from the US is about 10-15 days. Additionally, I ordered all sorts of bike related things from Ebay, Amazon as well as other shops both in the US and UK and never encountered any problems. As I said earlier sometimes Thai Customs hits you with a fee and sometimes not.

so, we're talking about tyres right ?

totster :D
