Who is the "they" that are telling you that you can't cross over to Thakek, Laos, at NKP? Have they been there recently?

In any case, yes, there's the new bridge so no need to take a boat.

Alternatively, if you want, you could also cross at Mukdahan to Savannakhet, also via a bridge.

Ok, very pleasant officer in thakek. Pretty much empty.

Took me 2h from nakhon.70 bahts for bus 1 way.departure every hour from nakhon.

It was a visa run.
