Anyone Know A Cheap Accountant/Lawyer?

In my ongoing struggle with UK banks and their absurd money-laundering rules, I have come up with a bank that wont accept copy ID certifications from the people I usually use (my Thai bank here and a tame actuary I know in the UK). This bank wants the copies certified by an accountant or lawyer, and I know neither.

So I'm looking for the cheapest accountant/lawyer in the South Pattaya/Jomtien area, to certify a couple of photocopies at the lowest possible cost.

I dont care if they are honest or bent. I dont care if they sell yaba from the back door and their daughters through the side door. I dont care if they dont know law or cant add up. I dont care if they are Thai, Farang, Cambodian or from Mars.

I just want them to sign and stamp a photocopy as being a true copy of the original, for as little cash as possible.

Does anyone know of such a beast?

What you are looking for is to get your paperwork "Notarised" best to go to a Law firm. I have not done this in LOS but it cannot be that expensive. I do not know where you stay - But Theprasit Road has numerous Law and accountancy firms down the whole length. Just walk through the door and ask in 3 of them and go back to the cheapest offered.

You "typed tone" on your posting indiicates youa re getting frustrated. Take a deep breath and count to ten and just go with the flow....

I'm not frustrated, honestly, and haven't been for decades. I'm just enjoying a good British rant about some of the entities I despise most; banks, lawyers, accountants and other assorted time-wasting leeches.

I dont need a proper notarial service at all in this instance. I had to get some documents witnessed and notarised some time ago and found a lawyer/notary in Soi Post Office in Pattaya who did it for 800B for two documents, which I thought was a lot more than it was worth (it took his secretary all of 3 minutes to do the copies, and him all of 30 seconds to sign them) but it was also a lot less than the 2500B that both the British consulate and some Indian lawyer in Soi DayNight wanted to do just one copy.

What I need this time is just a simple certified photocopy, and the bank that wants it will accept the certification by any accountant or lawyer here, but not a Thai bank nor a notary. God alone knows why.

Suggestion for Thepprasit is great, thanks, and I will have a look along there in the morning, though I dont remember seeing any such offices near the Thappraya end where I am. Of course when I have walked along there in the past I wasnt actually looking for a lawyer or accountant!

What you are looking for is a "notarial service", albeit a bit different than the one you were looking for earlier. In Thailand, the notaries are lawyers. The charge will be, I expect, the same. The lawyer you found on Soi Post Office was reasonable, given what I have seen charged for such services in Bangkok and Pattaya. There is a woman lawyer, right next to Bruno's (on the Pattaya side) that notarized my signature on a US Postal Service form for B500, which I thought was reasonable (again, in relation to what others charge). She speaks excellent English and is very nice, and her staff is very helpful. I seriously doubt you will get what you need done for less than that. Her certification ("notarization") of the photocopy will affirm that she is a lawyer and provide (as I recall) her lawyer ID number.

I agree you you about bankers and accountants, but be careful what you say about lawyers...... angry.png

I know that the Soi Post Office notary was cheaper than the consulate or elsewhere, but it really sticks in my throat to have to pay so much for so little, and I would have thought that an accountant would be prepared to do it for much less than 500B. My Kbank branch will do it for 100B, but unfortunately that isn't acceptable to this particular UK bank (though it was for all the other UK banks I've had to do it for). 500B is a seafood buffet lunch at the Hilton complete with a beer to wash it down. sad.png

If I was sitting on my suitably qualified backside doing nothing, as most of these people always seem to be, then I would also do it for 100B rather than see the business go elsewhere.

Maybe that's why I no longer have to work and they are still sitting in their offices.
