Thai Democrats Petition Court Against Pay-Out To Unrest Victims

PTP/Red Shirts caught out, once again, violating their own sacred oath of no double standards.... which has always been laughably bogus.

What double standards? It is only the Senator that says its double standards. From the OP;

quote

Last Tuesday, the Cabinet backed a compensation package for people killed or injured in political violence since 2005, when Thaksin Shinawatra was PM, until 2010 when Abhisit Vejjajiva was government head.

unquote

As far as I read it, this may include people in the south having been "killed or injured in political violence since 2005"

But yet again, do not forget that this recommendation was suggested by the TRCT set up by Abhisit whose recommendations he agreed to abide with.

It is recognised by many people that todays Thailand is divided and the most urgent requirement is to bridge this divide and the TRCT has come up with a number of proposals. I suggest that you read the report in its entirety to get a better idea of what is going on, and it doesn't involve double standards.

Thousands of people have died in the Deep South since 2005.

How many have received the 7.5 Million Baht the Red Shirts will receive?

Double Standards stand.

.

OK If you and the democrats are so upstanding on the double standards bandwaggon why stop at 2005, how about the deaths arising from political activities as follows?

If you want equal standards it's hypocritical to cherrypick deaths resulting from fighting for a political cause. Do the democrats want to compensate the insurgents in the south as well?

No cherry picking at all....

I'm just using the criteria that you and your Yingluck Cabinet cited:

Last Tuesday, the Cabinet backed a compensation package for people killed or injured in political violence since 2005

If the gov't is going to pay compensation to all victims of political violence since 2005, then there is not a double standard involved.

Watch to see how it is applied before shouting "wolf", please.

Tell the thousands in the South to start lining up for their 7.5 Million Baht each.

The compensation package was a recommendation from the TRCT - the TRCT have only investigated (as far as they were allowed to) the 2010 conflict. They have looked into the past to see why there is a divide and have ascertained that the red and yellow factions are part of that (obviously). They were tasked to do so by Abhisit and that they did (and are doing) but by definition of their task, this is unlikely to involve the deaths that have arisen as result of the southern insurgency.

Abhisit could have ordered a similar investigation into the southern insurgency and ordered a similar TRCT type committee to make recommendations but he didn't do so, presumably because the insurgency was less of a barrier to peaceful elections and aftermath compared to the red/yellow divide (though it is more complicated than that) or realised what a can of worms that would open.

Either way it is a bit disingenuous of the dems to start waving "an insurgency compensation package" stick at the PTP when they are only carrying out the recommendations of the Abhisit sponsored and approved TCRT which was not tasked with looking into the southern insurgency.

Confirmation now of the government saying there is no difference between the deaths in the south and the deaths in Bangkok.

To avoid double standards now, the thousands affected in the south are due the same compensation as the dozens of Red Shirts in Bangkok.

Deputy Prime Minister Yongyuth Wichaidit affirmed that the government financial assistance for victims of violence in the restive South is based on the same criteria as for victims of political violence in Bangkok.

No payments to lawbreakers.

How many in the south will be deemed such? How many at the illegal assembly in BKK will be denied?
