Hi i'm a new English teacher to Thailand and as of last week i have received my 90 day non-immigrant B visa. A family emergency has come up and I need to go back to Europe for about 2weeks. The question I need answered is can I depart Thailand on the Non B and re-enter without losing it? Getting the work permit is not an option yet as I have literally NO TIME!!!!

Can someone help me out quick!!!!

Thanks Peter.

Get a re-entry permit at the Airport or your local Immigration office, this will keep your visa valid until the date shown on it, if it is a single entry one.

Hope your employer keeps the job for you.

Costs 1000baht, you need the relevant form (TM8) and copies of your passport plus photo, and copy of departure card.

Photo as in extra one, required to be affixed at the bottom of the TM8

Is the TM8 form the paper I get given at the immigration office? also will I be questioned by the officer ie: should I tell them that I am a teacher ( but i haven't received my work permit yet)

you can download the form and complete it. There is no need to tell the Immigration officer about what you do for a living, just fill out the form. They never ask questions for a re-entry permit, although they might ask about where you are going but that is on the form.

It will keep the permission to stay period valid, whatever that date is, not the visa.

Sorry yes Beechguy is right if you have used the Visa to enter then it is finished, if you are on an extension from Immigration then okay, my apologies, I thought you were on an extension.

It can be used to keep any entry alive - you put the re-entry permit in the visa section when you return and immigration provides the same permitted to stay stamp date you currently have.

Basically I came here on a tourist visa which was then changed to a Non- Immigrant B visa when I started with my school.

I got the Non-B last week and it is valid for 90days. I need to leave Thailand in the next 2days for a family emergency so I don't have time to get the work permit.

So do I go to immigration with the completed TM8 form and copies of the passport etc and do they put a re-entry stamp in my passport enabling me to leave Thailand and return two weeks later?

Sorry i'm really not knowledgeable on any of this visa stuff as I am just new to Thailand can I have it in lay-mans terms. I'm only a newbie.

With payment of 1,000 baht fee that should be what is done. If you do not have time there should be a desk at airport that can be used after checking in for flight but fee is a bit more and only operate 06-2400 hours. Best to get early if you can.

You can return anytime before your current permitted to stay until date and get stamped in until that date.

Just make sure that when you come back to Thailand that yiou fil-lin your arrival card properly. The place where it calls for visa number is where you should enter your re-entry permit number and maybe even write abve it "re-entry permit". Put the arrival card in your passport at the page where the re-entry permit is stamped. If you just put your visa number they might see that it is no longer valid and only issue you a 30 day visa exempt entry. Look at the stamp in your passport before you leave immigration to insure the the stamp that thet gave you has the same permission to stay date as your old stamp.
