Living in On Nut Sukhumvit 81
I lived in a townhouse in Siripot Niwet on Soi 81. I really enjoyed living there. The Century Mall is quite small, as Bangkok malls go, but it is decent and has a Tops. The very accessible People Park mall, with Gourmet Foods and Wine Connection is also nice. And, of course, the huge Lotus at the BTS station, which is also very convenient. I like that it intersects with OnNut proper, but it does create some crazy traffic at times. Taxis to "the action" were always available and always ran the meter. The exact opposite of getting the return taxi. Street food in the soi is lacking, but I think that is because of all that is available just meters away. There always seemed to be a nice breeze where I lived and it never flooded. (that is not true down the entire soi - we were on higher ground) I guess my only real complaint was that, like so many sois, there was no sidewalk of any sort. -

Your opinion on leasing ? Why isn’t more popular ? It offers some kind of certainty
I would check to make sure the owner can't walk away from the lease, if you want that kind of security. It feels like in Thailand they usually have that option, at least for rentals. -

Any benefits in antibiotics
Antibiotics have clearly saved millions of lives. But less obviously, because of long-term effects, have probably destroyed millions. The human body is composed of roughly equal numbers of human cells and bacteria. The latter are an integral part of us. Some bacteria are known to carry out useful functions, while the roles of others remain unknown. The gut microbiome of a healthy individual is said to comprise in the region of 1,300 different species; in the case of an unhealthy individual considerably less. Present are so-called 'pathogenic' bacteria, which do no harm as long as their numbers remain limited by the presence of non-pathogenic species. When I worked as a volunteer in an alternative cancer centre in the 1980s, the Argentinian doctor in charge said that in her experience all those with the disease suffered from an overgrowth of candida albicans. In a healthy gut candida is present as a yeast which assists with the digestion of proteins. But when the balance of the gut flora is disrupted it transforms into a filarial fungal form, attaches itself to the one-cell thick lining of the gut, and perforates it, allowing macro-molecules of semi-digested or undigested food to enter the bloodstream. Fine filtering by 'tight-junctions' of the gut lining is now by-passed. This leakage of foreign substances can over-tax the immune system, causing intolerances to foodstuffs that were formerly well-tolerated. Ultimately the candida itself can enter the blood and migrate to other parts of the body. The balance of the intestinal flora can be upset by such things as antibiotics and preservatives in processed foods. Glyphosate, present particularly in 'conventionally-grown' cereals and beans is an antibiotic, and was originally patented as such. Needless to say, it sterilizes the soil, turning it into a lifeless medium. The flesh of factory-farmed animals is a common source of antibiotics. Which may also be present in municipal water-supplies. This is not to suggest that medically-prescribed antibiotics should never be taken. But after being taken, a useful precaution is to consume plenty of fermented, raw foodstuffs, such as sauerkraut, kimchi, live yoghurts, etc. -

I also have been married twice the first one in the west for 30 years and now the second time to a Thai for 21 years I ended the first marriage not my western wife, for a number of reasons married again to a Thai and are still married after 21 years. Never paid anything for my divorce apart from a few bucks court fees, and yes my current Thai wife makes good money and support me in my old age, can't complain about west or east. -

You WILL BE outside of Australia for 183 days, thus, a non resident for tax purposes. Do you see $0 to $135,000? Can you post a link, from anywhere, showing a old age pensioner does not have to pay non resident tax? The shooter donated money to ActBlue, a democrat organization that raises money to get people to vote democrat. Not exactly a republican supporting organization. I have read a suggestion that he may have registered as a republican so that he could vote in a republican primary, to help choose a person less likely to win against a democrat opponent. Something that was repeatedly written about on the internet by democrats who did that. After the republican primaries, those same people went back to the voter registrars and registered as a democrat again. -

But, they would never check for tax residency purposes, right? Yes, and a lot of members are unhappy with it, but you can see the tax payers point, right? Only for those who have burnt their bridges back in Australia. The old golden rule, don't put anything into Thailand you are not prepared to lose. Many sold up and moved their life saving here, now can't even afford to live in Australia for 2 years. Guess what, many Aussie expats have kept a property to go back to in Australia, either for their 2 years pension portability phase, or for a serious injury / illness, and even end of life. Not everyone has sold up back in Australia and moved it all to Thailand / Issan. Many have planned ahead for their 2 years come pension age, and beyond. If you didn't, why whinge here? -
