It is/was the capital of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar or, as many of us still say, Burma.

I have stayed at the Thermada Hotel near the train station. I donot know how close to the Embassy.

I think the OP meant Yangon, which was the capital of Myanmar until they made the new capital Naypyidaw.

The original capital of Burma was Rangoon, which is still far more important as a cultural and tourist center than the new military bunker up north.
