  • Chinese New Year Festival - mid-February, with lion dances, colourful parades, decorated floats, fireworks and general festivities with a strong oriental theme, to see in the Chinese New Year
  • Makkha Puja Day - mid-February, a major Buddhist celebration, involving a candlelit parade to Wat Chedi Luang
  • Lanna Wedding on Elephant Back - mid-February, many people come to Chiang Mai at this time of the year to get married in this most unusual way, at the Elephant Conservation Centre

E...,

Your facebook page is temproraly unavailable. 7 am is too early for me. Do you know if the floats will on be display after those hours ?

Mugg,

I know the Chinese New Year events are held at Chinatown for only 2 or 3 nights during the first few days of CNY only. Do you know of any CNY event around the last day(full moon day) ?

I think you missed Chinese New Year!

Completely missed it, Chinese New Year was held on January 23 and 24.

The Flower Festival starts at on the 3rd of February with the parade on Saturday, and the Lifescapes Film Festival at Payap tomorrow.

You don't have to signal a social conscience by looking like a frump. Lace knickers won't hasten the holocaust, you can ban the bomb in a feather boa just as well as without, and a mild interest in the length of hemlines doesn't necessarily disqualify you from reading Das Kapital and agreeing with every word. ~Elizabeth Bibesco

Chiang Mai flower festival (as others have mentioned) is quite good, loads of stalls, a stage with dancing and stuff and all the floats parked up. Evening event with a good atmosphere....south west corner of moat and in the park (where the stage is) from 3rd to 5th Feb.

It's a great place to take a few photo's, especially after the procession. The floats settle near chiangmai gate daily 3/4 during the afternoon, evening stalls with lots of food and beetles and insects
