I'm here on a journalist visa. I have a one-year work permit. I know that they will ask me about how much tax I paid when I go to extend my work permit later this year. Can anyone tell me if there is a certain amount of tax they expect one to have paid in order to qualify to extend their work permit? Also, does anyone know a good tax accountant in Bangkok who can help a farang with their Thai taxes?

No set amount. It's whatever you owe.

Immigration will want to see the receipt from the Revenue Office showing that you payed. The amount you actually end up owing/paying is determined by income minus exemptions/exclusions, not by immigration rules.

The amount you earn might be the issue.

For most of us, filing is easy enough to do ourselves. The employees at the Revenue Office are very helpful, in my experience, and will walk you through the simple process.

Immigration wants to see a minimum gross income, not nett income and asks for tax papers to confirm you are paying your taxes.

As a member of the media, there is no minimum income requirement for you.
