I moved from England 8ys ago because the goverment does not give a shit if you are British and bring back Guy Fawkes but British TV is the best in the world

A man is only as old as the woman he is holding"

The only British TV show I found tolerable was "The Benny Hill Show" (TV Series 1969–1989)

that say it all !!, .....benny was a sexcist introvert , .... and if you find benny hill funnier than say .....monty python , john cleese , billy connolly [worlds best comedian btw] peter kay , frankie boyle , ricky gervais etc etc , well,........... stop copying the comedy programmes made in the UK that the US continues to do , except when they do,.....they are not funny anymore,...................take ''the office" for example , ......... at least the UK version was funny !!!! , ..........if it had canned laughter the US would have found it a great comedy , as there was no canned laughter they were unsure if it was funny or not !!,.........same with american music, .........it has nothing to say ,........no substance what so ever since elvis , sorry to my american friends , but we have this descusion often ,.......... and they cant defend their culture-less corner , stick to technology ,............... your good at that !!,................. leave humour to the brits ,.......... and wind ups too !!

Not sure where you have been or where you are going Osiboy but my advice would be, if you get fed up with Thai soaps watch the thai wife get on a motor bike.

If that don't work you are probably on a loser. SE Asia is a long way from South Wales.

Unfortunately, this does not say if this will take away the monopoly for sattelite TV from True Vision. Anyone any ideas?

In northern europe it did. Before going digital pay tv market was very small and no content in native language. Very few had satellite or subscribed to pay tv via cable. And it was very expensive.

When digital tv arrived number of channels increased as did the choice for premium pay tv with reasonable prices. And subscriber base grew exponentially in the first year.

Now let's just hope same happens in Thailand, although i won't believe it until i see it in my own eyes. But at least this opens the door for change.

Anyone know about the boxes you can buy in Thailand that give you access to a lot more channels without paying a subscription for cable TV?

yes,.......if your thai, they're rubbish,.....if your farang, ...they're are worse !!

If you want high quality television Thailand is not the place to find it. Not a criticism. The opposite in fact.

True, but then again the handful terrestrial channels that you have now don't leave much room beyond Thai soaps, imported Chinese and Korean drama's and the odd good discussion show which isn't plastered with ads for soap suds in the background.

I doubt that there will be the production ability and depth of resources to provide 100 channels, but who knows, more channels might lead to the odd gem of a show to break through outside the confines the normal terrestrial options that we have at present.

I know watching the evolution of digitial telly in places like the UK and Australia, digital channels offer more opportunity to specialise and offer more unique offerings, some of which go on to be popular without the neccessary need for huge ratings or big sponsors to support them in the initial stages.

So lets see. It won't all be great, but there will be some stuff which rises above it all which simply wouldn't get a run on the normal channels.
