Replacing Uk Emergency Travel Document

Featured Replies

Can any of you tell me how long it took you to get a 10-year UK passport sent to Thailand via Hong Kong if your passport got lost ?

Is it really 6 weeks or is that the worst case scenario ? I heard the 8-month emergency UK passport is only good for one trip.

I never knew that. Would Thai immi then let a 30-day visa on arrival extend for 15 more days with that document in the country ?

A visa exempt entry cannot be extended, at the most you wuld get 7 days with a ticket out. Check with your embassy how many trips you can make, most emergency passports allow several trips. It is the visa pages and validity of the passport that are often limited. But not sure about a UK passport.

The 6 weeks is often a worse case scenario.

I had one replaced in Saigon a couple of years back. Saigon-HK-Saigon was 2 weeks. Sent by courier (in Vietnam, the courier charges were broken out in the list of price elements).

Hong Kong website says allow 6 weeks, BKK website say allow 4 weeks........

Myself sent off 3 weeks 3 days ago, money taken 3 weeks ago today, so far nothing arrived....

Friend wend to BKK and got a emergency UK passport last October and went to Laos and got a TR 60 day visa on this emergency UK passport, so plenty of time for a new passport

How does it work when you leave the country with 2 passports ? You show the old stamp on the emergency passport and they stamp out the new passport ? This new passport issuing system is a nightmare. I got a new one 2 years ago in under 10 days in Asia.

When you get the new passport, you visit immigration with both passports and they will transfer the details to the new passport so you only have to use the new passport.

You have to make copies of both passports and fill in a form. The process is free and doesn't take that long.

In my case, stolen passport, 22 days, Nov/Dec last year.

If you are here on a visa entry you just take both passports to border and are stamped out on the new one.

If you are here on an extension of stay from immigration you need to visit immigration to transfer the extension into new passport first and then can leave with just the new passport.

If you lose your passport you lose any visa in it as well. I lost my 1 year non-O and had to leave via BKK and return on a 30 day exempt entry. Took about an hour to depart at BKK immigration and I'm not entirely convinced the guy ever did find me on their computer system, despite having a copy of my lost passport and flight number/date for my last entry, but he wrote a short story in my new passport and let me leave.
