My tourist visa is up on the 25th, but my air ticket out is on the 28th and I can't change the date. It used to be no big deal when I did this many years ago. On anything around a week or less you paid the fine at the airport and were on your way.

But it was a long time ago and I would like to hear an update for 2012. What is the amount of the fine per day and can I expect a hassle for a three-day overstay? Thanks.

The fine is 500 baht per day and if not arrested by local police there should not be a problem at airport once you pay.

A better method would be to visit immigration for a 7 day extension of stay using TM.7 form and 1,900 baht as you would then be legal. Take air ticket to show reason if doing this route.

You have to go, but the option of getting an extra 7 days as mentioned by Lopburi is open to you.

You don't get the 7 days extension when you already have the 30 tourist visa extension.

Maybe some immigration offices are doing this when you show the airline ticket but it normally this is not the case.

Phuket immigration doesn't do it. ( so don't count on it )

Like i said, maybe at some immigrating offices but not at Phuket.
