KATHMANDU, Nepal (BNO NEWS) -- At least three people were killed on Monday afternoon in a rare bomb attack in the capital of Nepal, officials said. Several others were injured.

The explosion took place outside the Nepal Oil Corporation offices in the Babar Mahal area of Kathmandu at round 1:05 p.m. local time and approximately 200 meters (656 feet) from Singha Durbar, the official seat of the Nepalese government.

According to the Hindustan Times, two people died immediately at the scene of the attack, while another later succumbed to wounds after being transferred to a hospital. In addition, seven others were reported injured as well.

The rare attack was later claimed by the alleged spokesperson of the Samyukta Jatiya Mukti Morcha (United Ethnic Liberation Front), a previously unknown group, who contacted local television channels and identified himself as Biswo Kranti.

Biswo claimed the attack was carried out after the price increase of petroleum products over the weekend.
