Hong Kong Dollars

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm off to Hong Kong on a short holiday, I wanted to get my currency exchanged before I got to the airport as I imagine it to be expensive there.

I tried at the banks in Airport Plaza and also the purple bank on Sunday market street and the one on Ratchawithi road. No luck.

Anyone exchanged any $HK recently? If so, where in town do I get them!

Thanks!

Just use the regulars banks at airport departures, rate is exactly the same as the banks in town. That's what I do and the exchange rate is as good as any where else.

Super Rich on Loi Kroh might have HKD and if they do they might have a slightly better rate than the banks here.

As ."...darkside" said I doubt it matters whether yu use the bank in the airport or in town.

But you are sure to get a better rate using an ATM card in HK.

Thanks for the replies, think I'll exchange at the airport.

The thing that puts me off using my ATM card is how much the bank will charge me for using it.

Cheers.

Try UOB exchange booth on Ratchademnern Rd, just west of Moonmuang. near the Siam bank exchange booth. They always had the best rates I found for HKD to THB. I don't know about the other way around. There's another UOB branch on night bazaar road near Anusarn market.

More than likely. In fact traveling it is nearly always the way we get the local currency.

Normally the amounts we are getting is too piddling to be overly concerned about exchange rates.

You can also just get it at any exchange counter at Suvarnabhumi airport if you're connecting there.

Hi,

Are you sure that it is really better to change Thb for $ HK in Thailand or is it the same in HK ?

And what about Euro and USD ? Would I get a better rate by changind Euro or USD (that I already have, no need to change) in HK ?

And changing Euro or USD to HK dollar at Super rich in Bangkok ?

Thanks for your ideas.

Yes. Strangely enough. Also the counters at Suvarnabhumi are more likely to have HKD available compared to Chiang Mai. So if you're flying direct out of Chiang Mai then it may be beneficial to try and get some changed first.

Google some banks in Thailand and Hong Kong and find out. I'd be surprised if there was a big difference though, as these are main currencies.

The best rates are in Chungking Mansions , Nathan Road , TST. Ignore the money changers at the front , walk into the building, ground level and have a wander around the shops at the back. The rate will be better in Hong Kong than Thailand.

I would think that unless you are changing thousands of dollars, the difference in exchange rates would just amount to a few dollars. If you can afford to travel to Hong Kong for a holiday, you can afford the convenience of exchanging your money along the way without needing to make special trips to save a penny on the dollar. Even a thousand pennies only adds up to ten bucks...
