TIRINKOT, Afghanistan (BNO NEWS) -- At least nine police officers were killed on Thursday when militants attacked a police post in central Afghanistan, officials said. One officer remains missing.

Suspected Taliban militants attacked a local police security post on Wednesday in the Dashi area of Charchino district of the country's Uruzgan Province, according to Pajhwok Afghan News.

District development council chief Juma Gul told the news agency that nine policemen were killed during the attack, while a tenth law enforcer went missing. According to Hajji Naem Khan, a provincial council member from the district, one of the policemen was associated with the suspected militants involved in the attack.

Taliban spokesman Qari Yousuf Ahmadi later claimed responsibility of the attack, although he stated that a total of ten policemen had been killed.
