Not sure if Im in the right forum.

I will be in Kuala lumpor for a few days and need some help with where to stay. Im looking for a room in a "Nana" type area where there is some night life.

Want to spend around $60 a night with wi-fi and walking distance to shopping and pubs etc.

Any recommendations?

There are no Nana type areas in KL. It's by far the dullest capital city in Asia.

There is a small string of clubs / restaurants / bars (including one of the type I suspect you're interested in, whose name i can't recall but think it's the Beach Club) in the middle of town, but that's it. Awful place, and worst taxi drivers I've ever encountered.

Hi zorro1,

I went for a visa run to KL and posted for advice.

Here is the thread http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/530228-kl-budget-hotel-near-thai-embassy/page__hl__kuala+lumpur__fromsearch__1

A couple things I noticed. You can get off the bus at Sentral bus station coming in from the airport and are in walking distance of an area called Brickfields. In the thread, I had one poster who was pitching this area regarding some nightlife.

I ended up staying in Chinatown on Petaling street. interesting and some decent food, but not very happening.

Oh!!.. maybe old fart but thought KL has a lot to offer... really like it...try the Mountbatten hotel..near China town..good price great rooms and near most stuff.

If your looking for Bangkok/Phuket/Pattaya style entertainment think you is SOL my friend...

So you reckon it's less fun than Ulan Bator, Dhaka, or Bandar Seri Begawan?

In fact when the Thai working girls start shaking their moneymakers in the Beach Club, the place doesn't feel a million miles away from Soi Nana.

....remember that you are in a muslim country

I always seem to have trouble remembering this whenever I'm in Jakarta . . . .

This is rather hard on KL bendix. The city is a colorful, lively place bustling with night-life and great choice of foods that even Bkk cannot match. For bars try the area around Changkat Bukit Bintang off Bukit Bintang. Okie, the prices are higher as all alcohol is expensive there. Yes, there are no girls on display but judging by many taxi drivers who offered me that kind of service I believe it's also possible. For food, near-by Jalan Alor has one of the best food area in the whole of SE Asia. Many shopping malls, more food, more bars are within walking distance and so is the up-market area of the city towards The Pavillion and KLCC. One of the hotels in Jalan Alor is Hotel Nova at around OPs budget. Another place is Hotel Raddison and Hotel Alpha Genesis. They are all 3 star hotels but good value for money in the heart of "KL's Nana". Taxi drivers in KL sometimes refuse to go to certain places because of heavy traffic jams in that area but otherwise taxis are as inexpensive as in Bkk and I find them much LESS hassle. Not to mention of course all the drivers can crack a joke in English and love a bit of an "international talk". Lastly, KL, for an "Awful place" has much more greenery than Bkk plus pleasant hills and lakes.

there is a area called Pudu market, you can find hundreds of nana type but more syt street walking hookers.........but beware, because no farang knows about this area, so you can easily be spotted if being there alone unlike in bkk. there are more hookers in every spa or night club you can find around there

I think I should have been clearer on what I meant. By nana I was trying to convey the word "atmosphere" and not whore mongering which I can get where I live on every corner on Sukhumvit.

I ended up at the concorde hotel that houses the hard rock cafe and it was perfect and there were plenty girls or should i say very discreet hookers. I really liked it but then again Im a huge fan of hard rock hotels.

I agree, dull as ditchwater, the only thing that tops BKK or anywhere in Thailand are the computer prices in Low Fay

Zorro1 - if you had found this place on your own - you was lucky,or you had good advice - but not from here?KL Hard Rock is very authentic and alive.

For going out -Bintang is place to go:"Bintang" stop on monorail. You can stay there, plenty of hotels.

Nightlife in Brickfields is rather rough. You can try another place - out of KL,but very easy access:

Genting Highlands with casinos, huge WorldHotel(6000 rooms!) - it is high altitude,so not so hot or even it is cold(hill station). There - jolly atmosphere, very tacky decor, and in this crowd there is something going on really. If you are unattached single male - they will find you very quickly.

Taxis in KL? there are 2 sorts of them: - ordinary:cheap if your driver is honest and will use meter, unfortunatly in downtown there is clique of drivers praying on foreigners, monopolizing the area, demanding fixed, high price. There is another sort:"eksekutif"taxi - which are prime taxis, much more expensive.(2 or 3 times). There is public transport by trains, monorail and subways - better to use them.
