Where To Buy An Oven In Ubon Rachathani?

Although it may seem simple I'm having a hard time here finding anywhere with a decent selection of ovens and hobs.

After just completing building a house here Ive pretty much spent the last 6 weeks in DoHome (Ubon WatSatDu), HomeMart, HomeHub and Index plus a bunch of little private shops but I cannot see anything like what I want; a 5 burner gas hob and a matching large electric oven. Is there a specialist shop around here?

I thought two burners and an electric plate was too little when I kitted out our kitchen 3 years ago. In reality, for Thai cooking, it's way enough. If my wife had her way we'd be cooking on standalone gas burners or BBQ pots outside anyway - which is probaby sensible given the pungency of thai cooking. If your wife is going to be doing the bulk of the cooking you might need to rethink before you impose western design!.

Sorry can't help much other than clever-dick comments like that; Home Hub's selection was fine for me (their ovens turned out to be a bit crude, but they do the job on roast and the odd pie) but I wasn't concerned to match the makes.

I was at the mall at Korat and went to Home Pro,they had them there,i think around 5 or 6 different makes.

These wern't the regular toaster ovens.these were regular size ovens for baking etc.

I had the same problem, built a house with a large kitchen, after a week of her cooking indoors, I realized my mistake. I had a large outdoor kitchen made in the backyard. The wife seems happier with this setup. As a added bonus, I like this room too because I notice at night the indoor house is still quite warm whereas the outdoor kitchen kitchen is more comfortable. Most of the friend and relatives go to this room when visiting.

Actually it's the oven that I am most interested in but I do agree with you about the stove to make Thai food. We already have a single gas burner setup on our back patio where all the food has been cooked for the last couple of weeks and I'm guessing this will remain. Would like a hob for Sunday Roasts and other farang food and probably a three burner would be adequate.

So where has the most and best choice of ovens in Ubon?

I just found out that they are building a HomePro here along with a new Central World Mall (can't actually figure out where it is from the pics I've seen) but construction only began last month so that will be a good long time coming.

No, not at all!!!! It's been pure hell.

We live an hour away from DoHome so I've spent literally 2 days of my life just driving to and from there over the last couple of months, plus the several hours each time walking round trying to choose everything that they don't have in stock at the moment - we are real good at that. We are also pros at buying faulty goods from HomeHub, it took me 5 trips to get a pair of double doors that matched and didn't have any scratches and dents in them, sounds impossible but it really took me that many attempts.

So far the best place I've found for ovens is that large expensive electronics shop next to Tescos, I was really hoping there was an oven shop here but I'm now guessing there's not.

you could try the catering supply shop right opposite Do Home. It is in the PTT gas station. They have all the gear for commercial kitchens

so you might find what your looking for there. Its called Meuang Thong Thani. As you drive in the gas station, its on yr left.

I don't know what a hob is but I bought a small gas oven with 3 burner stove which is plenty for what you described. I have baked chickens, turkey, ribs, bread, and many other things. We bought it downtown at a place called Seerung or something like that. It is across from Tourism offiice on the left side of the street heading down to the river. Its an electronics shop but mostly air conditioning, refrigerators, stoves, ovens, kitchen appliances, water coolers and a few TV and audio items. Give it a try I think you will find what you are looking for.

No it's not on that road. If you are coming south you turn left just passed the provincial hall at the south end of the park, Tung Sri Muang. If you are traveling north from Warin you turn left at the intersection with the library, provincial hall, gas station and museum. Go passed the south end of the park where the night food market is, passed Ubon Hotel, passed Suzuki and Ratchathani Hotel. Tourism office is on the left a few blocks down, the shop with ovens is on the right hand side at the intersection just passed the tourism office and a bank beside it. The name of the road is Khuan Thani

Save yourself a heap of money and just buy a Glass Fan Forced Oven that sits on the counter top. Easy to clean and does great roasts, you can cook anything it them. We use 2 in our commercial kitchen and do everything from Garlic Bread to Roasts in them.

Thanks for taking the time to explain thAt. I'll definitely go there next chance I get to go to the city. If nothing else you have shown me how little I know Ubon city - I literally know none of the places or road names you mention, but will get find them on google maps.

Stay away from Home Hub!!! Installation of our kitchen must have gone to the lowest bidder. Worst work I've ever had done on 10 or so projects in Thailand. Worst customer service I've ever experienced too. I've had problems at Do Home but they righted the wrongs immediately and at no cost. They also will match or beat other store prices like Home Mart and Home Hub if you ask.

Whatabout Index for a kitchen? I only ask because they came and measured up the kitchen for us the other day and are now designing it for us. So far Index have been great for everything we bought, everything is good quality and came on the day they said it would.

Worktop counters seem to be crazy expensive though. PVC worktops are nearly 10k per m2 in Index. The chipboard counter they sell for 3k/4k per m2 feels really cheap.

Oh yeah, my search for an oven saga is over due to your help!

I went to the shop I think you meant near the TAT called สีลม but they only had a couple of all in one no brand name (that I knew of) ovens BUT directly opposite the TAT was a large electronics store called "แสงUbon" who directed us onto their even larger store on the other side of the city where we finally found a nice selection of kitchen appliances including separate electric ovens and gas hobs. So thanks again for your help and giving us a little tour of the city.

Does anyone have any feedback on Index kitchens? They just measured us up and we went to see their design yesterday and, to be frank, it was very expensive for mediocre quality and a lot of the time I felt like I was being lied to and ripped off.

Any good or bad reports?

So far this month we have bought a sofa and many custom made blinds and I was more than happy with what we got and the service they provided, yes it wasnt cheap but we wanted nice stuff. The kitchen department seems to be way more cost over substance, or maybe just a different sales stance. They wouldnt even let us take the quote or a 3D concept picture to think it over unless we paid for the kitchen.
