When Will It End?

Featured Replies

We are planning to be in Doi Saket the last two weeks in May. What is the air quality likely to be like then, based on your experiences in past years. Starting to get worried. Thanks for any constructive opinions.

No Problem

Just bring a mask

It'll be gone in the next week or two. This rain will be the beginning of the end. I have visitors arriving two weeks today, I'm hoping with a bit of rain it'll be over with before they arrive.

Think we will move this out of news and events and in the main CM forum.

The haze tends to ease up already in April, and the rains will gradually start. I don't think there'll be any haze to speak of in late May.

Air quality today was an improvement over the last few days in Chiang Mai city, but I wouldn't call it haze free.

Two years ago the haze lasted well into May, but the rains were very late that year. The worst of the smoke will probably be gone by mid-April, hopefully much sooner.

Last March was almost smog free and we even had 4 days of a cold, unseasonal rain. Temperatures were in the low teens and everybody was complaining about being cold. This year is more like the previous years. There is no predicting the weather and all you can do is make generalizations. My best guess is by late May everything will be okay and people will complain about rain ruining their holiday.

Historically, air quality reaches its nadir in mid March and is generally back to normal +/- by early April, May should present no problems at all.

in 2010 i came back to chaing mai on march 28th and there was no smoke in the air.
