Jai Dee Posted December 15, 2005 Share Posted December 15, 2005 TSUNAMI WARNING SYSTEMS TO BE INSTALLED IN SIX SOUTHERN PROVINCES BY FEBRUARY Secretary to the Minister attached to the Prime Minister’s Office, Ganop Gaitchart (นายกณพ เกตุชาติ) insisted that the tsunami warning system will be installed in the six southern provinces along the Andaman Coast at all 76 locations within February 2006. Mr. Ganop said that currently, the installation at 33 locations have been completed, adding that most of the unfinished sites are situated on far away islands, making it difficult for transport and the installation. He said that all 76 locations will have the system installed by February 2006. As for December 16 at 1.30 PM, Mr. Ganop said that the warning system will be tested and there will be a drill for evacuation plan in the six Andaman coastline proionces. Minister attached to the prime minister’s office, Suranand Vejjajiva (สุรนันทน์ เวชชาชีวะ) will preside over the rehearsal. Mr. Ganop insisted that the warning system at all 76 locations are modern and cover all areas, therefore, he said the people and tourists can be confidence that the system will be able to give advanced warning for evacuations prior to any future tsunami disasters.
