I have a thai sim card which is 1 2 call, i have no idea how to get internet i tried asking several times at the phone shops in Central Plaza but it must get lost in translation because they look at me awfully confused and me back at them so i gave up.

I want it mostly for checkin emails on the go, i know i can use cafe free wifi but id also like the mobile option, first is it any good and 2nd considering ive little or no Thai whats the step by step to getting it setup.

One last thing, i want to upgrade my internet package, im a couple of months in, will i need to sign a new contract, dont plan being in the same condo past the end of the contact so dont want to extend it if will exceed the least

Finally whats the chances of getting an English speaking rep on the phone to explain te packages, cant find details of packages online

I think all packages and codes to enable are in this page http://www.ais.co.th/12call/th/mao_mao.html

Theres 3 differdnt packages I use, either the monthly unlimited package for 799 baht plus tax, or the 24 hour unlimited package for 49 baht plus tax or the 150MB package for 149 baht plus tax.

AIS have the best English speaking customer service Ive ever used in Thailand. Just call 1175 from your phone (not free!).

Oh and something you should be aware of if you are going to use these packages is a couple of nuances that AIS have deliberately put in place. Some would call them scams but they definitely are designed to be advantageous for AIS.

1. See how all of the package prices are just over a multiple of 50 baht when tax is applied? Why not price these all at multiples of 50 baht including tax?? Well it's probably because you can only buy credit in multiples of 50 baht which means that you will need to buy 100 baht credit for a 49 baht 1 day package; then another top up if you want another day and so on, you are always playing catch up with the credit.

But that is nothing compared to:

2. When your internet package finishes AIS will start to automatically charge you 1 baht per min without warning. It is so annoying to get up in the morning and find out that 500 baht of credit has been burned up because you forgot to disable GPRS before the package ended. When you use a data allowance package such as the 150MB package you get an alert when there is only 4MB remaining but if you are only using it for emails this could last another day - there is no warning when you are down to 0MB and you are being charged by the minute again.

Many will argue that these are fair practices and that it is your responsibility to keep a check on your own account, and while that is true, AIS could help out if they really wanted to by just sending you another alert when your package is finished but I bet these generate a lot of revenue for nothing for them.

Has the OP tried to access internet with the current SIM?

I have an AIS 1-2-call sim, not a special internet one, just the plain jane version....and EDGE/GPRS is included.

Sure the cost per minute or MB is no doubt higher than a dedicated internet package, but if all you want to do is occasionally check emails, etc......smile.png

PS I also have a DTAC postpaid internet sim, a DTAC Happy prepaid internet sim, and an AIS 3G internet sim, and I use all of them.

Oh yeah OP one thing I forgot to tell you, which I think is the answer you were looking for, is that a new 12call sim doesnt come GPRS/Edge (internet) enabled, you need to call customer service on 1175 and ask them to turn it on for you.
