Mickeem
Today is the first anniversary of the 6.8 magnitude earthquake in eastern Shan state that was strongly felt also in the North of Thailand. I was in a hotel room in Mai Sai and thought the place was going to collapse around me. thankfully there was little damage in the area but those living around the epicentre were not so lucky over 200 people lost their lives. Over the next 2 days I stayed in Tachileik and witnessed funeral processions and saw video footage of the extensive damage around Tarlay. As well as being shaken by the many aftershocks. Let us remember those who suffered injury and loss of their lives one year on
canuckamuck
I remember it well: My wife asked me "what should we do?" and I said shh, don't ruin it. OK I was excited to experience my first earthquake, and our house was just rolling back and forth, not too scary, more like being on a boat. Of course I don't want to downplay the horror those in the danger zone must have felt. Rest in Peace to those who didn't make it. Their experience was obviously quite different from mine.
