maccaroni man
i dropped my 5g buffalo tower and now it wont read any of the files (important) I searched google for trouble shooting and it suggested that the only way to recover the files is to move them to new hard drive, is there a trusted place on samui i can get this done? Mole
If your HDD is dead, then I recommend sending it to a HDD recovery facility. I used this company and they managed to get all my data back. They are a bit pricey, but at least the data is recovered. http://www.idrlab.com/ These people have their own clean room facility. There are many places in Bangkok which are just a front and they forward your HDD.
angryfarang
Can you hear the drives spinning up in the enclosure?

angryfarang
It depends on what damage you have done. If you're lucky you might have just damaged the hardware in the tower and the not the drive itself. If this is true you can just remove the drive(s) and put them in a USB enclosure and copy the data off. However, if you've damaged the drive itself, it will need to have the platters removed in a clean room. Normally when a hard drive is damaged it will spin up, then spin down, spin up, then down. Or spin up and make a ticking sounds.
Jdietz
If it spins up, check first if you didn't just detach a cable tipping it. Push everything back in firmly and retry. Can't hurt and a lot cheaper than recovery.
