ericthai
Can anyone advise if there are any hassles in doing the visa run in Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai on the Burma side. I would like to travel into Burma for 1 day or a few hours as I have never been. I usually go to Cambodia, Laos or Vietnam, but I'll be in Chiang Mai for the holidays and want to do my visa run while there. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank You, Eric

rishi
Only cash will do. The 10.000 will only be enough for a non visa-run - that is, if you don't actually have a visa, but merely want to get a new 30 days entry stamp. For a visa - any kind - 20,000 is the amount, you might need to show.
Dr. G
Mae Sai is fine. Park out side Top North. 20K Baht for 90 day stamp. 10k Baht for 30 day stamp. g
briley
And US$5 for Burma - can get for 250 Baht at the border or cheaper at the bank before you go.
rishi
Don't worry about your money. Take the obvious precautions against pickpockets and the like. Thats it. Your car is a different question. You're highly adviced to leave it in Bangkok and use the public transportation. As soon as you're north of Ayuthaya, you're prone to be zapped away and half of your car to be sold as spareparts in Myanmar, the other half to be sold as spareparts in Lao. So, please don't come to Chiang Mai with a car! It'll most likely be torched!
