Shopping In Mae Sai

Featured Replies

Can someone give me some info on the shop on the bridge, on the right hand side as you are leaving Myanmar.

They have some really nice clothing and accessories, but still not sure if they're original or just good copy's.

Anyone know what's the score on this place?

You might get a reply out of Chiang Rai forum.

, but still not sure if they're original or just good copy's.

I think the latter, as most things in the area are fakes.

Most of the designer clothes, shoes, handbags, belts, etc. are all fakes. Some are so dam_n good that it would be hard to tell the difference, right down to the boxes they come in. The give away though is usually in the stitching (and the price of course). You know the old saying "if it looks too good to be true, it probably is".

over the years ive bought some real good gear from that supermarket(mainly designer trousers)and ive been pleasently suprised at the quality, went this year and not had any my size,i found the clothes i bought there have lasted longer than clothes bought from marks and sparks in uk,ps the spirits and wine are the real thing, lol.

Considering most clothes in UK designer or not are made in Asia, SEA and the Far East anyway, it's not surprising that the clothes you can buy here are as good as those back in one's home country.

However, for trousers/jeans back home, they seem to make allowances for those who are big down under. wink.png

Not at all despite Oz being one of the top obese nations (UK may be higher now).

I was saying that trousers bought here, usually don't have enough room from the waist to the crotch.

Everything's fake except the booze and cigarrettes. If you ask the people selling stuff, they'll usually tell you it's fake.

Even the booze and smoke are fake.

And of course, the electronic crap copmes from China, so buyer beware. Normally that stuff lasts a few hours/days, if your lucky. Check out before you walk away, especially calculators. Make sure all the keys and functions are working. One lesson learned the hard way!

Even the booze and smoke are fake.

can we get a verification on this?

I assumed the price was a bit lower because of the lack of tarrif.. Otherwise, the price should be far lower.

I used to buy cigarettes and 100 Pipers in there but stopped as I also thought they were fake, don't know why, just a feeling.....getting verification will be difficult, from where?

Also, why sell cheap when you can sell at a high price and sell as the genuine item to unsuspecting customers?

Be interesting to know the truth though.

The smokes from the street vendors certainly are, I got stitched up on my first visit, but the packaging is so good, you would never know till you tried to smoke the thing !!

the spirits are the real thing, can vouch for that, and there not much cheaper than most duty free outlets,

350b for a litre of jwb, just put in an order for Songran

I've bought cigs (B&H) from there twice; 1st time were real, 2nd time were definitely fakes.
