Hi,

For the past year I have been in Thailand on a non-imm b and a work permit teaching. I am changing employers, so when my ended my old contract, my employers canceled my WP, and we went to immigration together and canceled my work extension. I then did a Burma run whilst I waited for my new school to sort out paperwork for my new non-imm. I'm going to go over to vientiane at the end of the week, and thought I should check on the website that I had everything I needed. On the Thai embassy in VT website, it says that for a non-imm B, I need a copy of my old work permit if I've been working in Thailand before - is this the case? I don't have it any more as it's been cancelled! Any clarification on this would be greatly appreciated!

Also, my last employers got me to get a health check before going to get my visa, which they put in with all the paperwork, my new school say this isn't needed... is it?

Thanks a lot!

Many people DO copy their WP's, Passports and drivers licenses so if you have a copy then sure it would be relevent to bring however it won't stop them from giving you a visa.

If your new employer did not ask you for a health check-up certificate then it is not needed.

In the past they have wanted to see a WP3. The WP3 shows that a work permit has been applied for and that it will be issued once the person gets the visa.

The embassy puts a red stamp in your passport that says you must have a W.P. to show to immigration, when you go for an extension. You do not need to have the W.P. or a receipt for it in advance. This has been my experience.

I'm in the same boat. I was told that a current Non Imm B can be changed to a new Non Imm B for a new employer without leaving the country. Any help on this?

If you are talking about an Extension of Permission to Stay based on Employment, then it is possible but complicated (more so if you are not a teacher).

The first and main problem to arise is that your old Work Permit and Extension are cancelled the same day your contract/employemnt ends, so you normally need the support of your old and new employer to make the new WP/Extension application process happen smoothly/synchronously.

However if you are talking about a One Year Multiple Entry Non Immigrant B Visa obtained outside of Thailand, where you get 90 day stamps when you enter Thailand, then this type of Visa is unaffected by the cancellation of your Work Permit and can be used for a fresh application at Labour, providing the 90 day entry itself is still valid.
