luther
Any news on this? Flames were leaping out one of the windows and smoke pouring out many others as drivers were diverted away from the moat about 11:00 this morning.
ChiangMaiMail
It was just a practice drill put on by the City in conjunction with rescue, hospitals and the fire department. They also had a practice rescue drill with rescuing people in the moat.

WinnieTheKhwai
If you practice you got to make it look real.
Ulysses G.
I reported the same thing one time and it turned out to be a drill that time too. I don't know how they do the flames so it looks real, but they do.
ChiangMaiMail
Yes, it was a drill, we received a Press Release from the Municipality regarding the entire thing, not just for fire but for rescue as well. I guess they want to make it as real as possible.

Paagai
If it was Chinese New Year rather than Thai New Year you could be forgiven for thinking they were burning it down for the insurance

elektrified
Didn't know what was going on when I passed by Thapae at 16:00 today. There must have been 100 police, 50 soldiers in combat gear, ambulances, fire trucks, divers, etc. I asked a policeman what was going on and he shouted at me to keep driving. Looked like it was over for C.M. A drill...that explains it...
