Total Gym--Ship From California Or Buy New In Thailand?

One of the few things I don't want to get rid of for my imminent move

to Chiang Mai is my Total Gym exercise equipment.

I was just measuring the box to research shipping costs from California when I

noticed, printed on the box, that it was made in Thailand. Are Total Gyms

available for sale locally? If not, would appreciate recommendations for

shipping companies--the box is approximately 55x18x11 inches and am guessing

the weight 85-95 lbs.

Don't bother. Buy it here new. On a box that size and weight, you can't possibly avoid import duty. Also the cost of sending what 50 kg or thereabouts from California??? Sell it, buy new here.

if its good enough for Chuck Norris its good enough for me

have one back in the UK but havent seen them on sale here

maybe someone will recognize it from the pic

You know that is basically a swim trainer

Folks use to lay on their stomach & use the handles to pull their weight.

Resistance is set by how high you make the front.

You can actually start out close to level with a bungee cord pulling the sled back to its start position

plus the bungee adds a bit more resistance.

When I was younger & doing tri I designed & built one for less than $100 then sold plans for $9.99

Thought I was going to be rich till the Vasa swim trainer company threatened to sue me claiming patent infringement smile.png

It is so simple I bet you could easily have one built in Thailand by a welder....or even a handy man

The ramp can be rail style like shown or even a flat ramp with small sides to keep a sled with wheels from going off

the flat ramp.

Two adjustable stands, add a sled with wheels attach pull handles & your done.

Remember all it is really is a rolling sled to pull your weight on.

I don't see why? every exercise done in that video can be done on the sliding ramp.

It is just a resistance machine that relies on your weight for resistance vs slope.

As you increase the angle the resistance of pulling your weight up it increases.

At the end of the day it is just a rolling/sliding platform with pull cords.

It's amazing how many products are made in this part of the world, shipped to Europe or North America and available here only as imports. It all has to do with whether the company has a local distributors. Just because a product says "made in Thailand" doesn't mean it's "sold in Thailand".

That being said, I agree a clever Thai craftsman could fabricate something even better after watching Chuck Norris's fluffy sales video and (more importantly) seeing the device depicted as the swim trainer it really is on the internet. A clever Thai trainer modified a cheap ab trainer into a decent free weight bench for me. It has five different positions, from flat on my back to full 90-deg sit.

It's amazing how many businesses are setup in export zones purely to make product for export only.

Thanks for the replies. As Orang37 suggested, I emailed [email protected] and was sent this Bangkok address for further inquiries.

I'll probably wait until I'm in Thailand to get in touch with TV Direct but am hoping I can replace my old Total Gym since it is much too expensive to ship from California. And if it's not available, hopefully I'll find a Thai craftman who can build me something similar. I intend to take several photos of the system before I sell it.

I didn't realize so many items are made in Thailand. Just a few hours ago, while searching for an online manual for my Casio watch, I had to check the back of the watch for model number and noticed it was also stamped "Made in Thailand".

You know it is true & as an aside there is a Thai singer who sings a popular song called Made In Thailand. His name is Carabao

He sings about how things are made in Thailand but the foreigners get the money. He sings about how the youth want name brands never realizing what they pay more for is re-branded made in Thailand products.

I do not think there is a English subtitle one but there is a Falang who sang it on you tube with English subtitles

Should show the original too ;)
