35 year old Elephant gives birth at Nong Nooch Gardens

Pattaya:--A 35 year old Elephant has given birth at Nong Nooch Gardens after a 24 month gestation period.

We understand this is the 39^th child of the father of the newborn. After a 10 hour labour, the new baby boy was born to the delight of workers at Nong Nooch who monitored the birth throughout the night but made sure not to intervene until the last minute to ensure a natural birth could occur and the mother was allowed to make the first interaction with her new child.

It's quite unusual for an elephant to be born in captivity. Most are still captured from the wild. And 35 is quite old for an elephant to be giving birth.
