I've just got a Samsung Young GT-S5360 (their entry level phone) which has HSDPA 7.2 Mbps.

I believe this phone has the capacity to go online but I don't know which phone network to sign up with to get online?

Anyone got any idea? I live in Bangkok so want coverage for Bangkok. Prepay options preferred as I imagine they are easier to get onto.

What kinds of speeds would be available to me and would going online be realistic with this phone/connection or just checking emails?

Thanks!

Edit: here is some more info about the phone:

There are certainly many different versions of a particular model number but a quick search seems to indicate that model support 900/2100 Mhz 3G so you would be limited to AIS/One-2-Call (900 Mhz 3 G) or TOT/MVNOs (2100 Mhz 3G).

Both should have 3G coverage in your area but be advised that AIS/One-2-Call's 3G network seems to have many disatisfied customers, and TOT/MVNOs (their resellers) are a less than full service provider in many people's opinion. YMMV.

i often get higher speed from AIS than true

I have tested both in fortune tower and central rama 9 on saturday

AIS -4000 /950

true -140 / 300

i think true is overloaded their masts in the ratchada area

when we went to Rayong though ,AIS didnt even have a signal for 3g or edge

internet was stil conecting on the TRUE phone there

both sims using unlimited monthly packages in a SGS2's so a fair comparison

Thanks. So it won't work on True then?

Well it will "work" with either TrueMove or TrueMove H in the snese that you will get voice, text and low-speed GSM (2G: GPRS/EDGE - ~ 200 Kbps) data. If you want 3G then you'll have to go with AIS/One-2-Call or TOT/MVNOs. Note that this assumes I have found the correct specs for your phone model. Maybe have a look on the outside of the box for potentially more accurate specs, or the detailed model number, then Google the specs for it.

TrueMove or TrueMove H? Speedtests are fairly useless, and speed is highly dependent on location and loads. If this is just from one single location, and one single test then more than useless. You may have a configuration issues, or reached your fair-use limit and/or a crappy baseband modem. If you get better results from TrueMove H in other locations then it could just be a result of your location in relation to the sevring base=station. To make the leap that " true is overloaded their masts in the ratchada area" from a single speedtest seems a stretch but if that helps you deal with it so be it.

I dont have anything to "deal with " :)

me and my wife have identical phones ,and mine is consistently faster than hers in the ratchada area

if making assumptions i dont know or understand the technology helps you deal with it ,so be it ;)

Thanks, I will go and look for an AIS sim card then. Do I need to have any documents like address and ID or is it like paying a regular pre pay sim card? Thanks.

For pre-paid service you do not need any proof of residency. Buy a SIM, put it in the phone, add value, configure the APN, subscribe to a data plan.
