Great New Android App For Learning To Write Thai

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I've come across a new Android App that teaches you how to write the Thai Alphabet much better than a whole array of other apps I've tried on the Android market. Also it is free which helps. :)

So far I have gone through the first 3 lessons this morning on my Android phone, and then tried the exams for those lessons. I was surprised how quickly I picked it up, as having lived here for nearly 8 years, I still find the Thai Language a big challenge.

Anyway, it seems pretty clever, in that it seems to learn which characters you get right and wrong, and then keeps drilling you on the ones you struggle with.

I thought and give you all a heads up, as its pretty useful (To me anyway).

The thing I REALLY like about it, is the animations it shows you, as its difficult to know where to start when writing some of the more tricky characters.

Its here for anyone interested:-

Cheers

Thanks for taking the time. I'll check it out and get back to you on it.

Good except there's no move to SD enabled.

This is clearly written by a Thai. I have yet to meet a Thai who is aware of the groupings(LOW ,MID ,HIGH). They have no need to know.

It is essential for a Farang. The best way to learn cons is group by group. This application prejudices that best practice.

The consonants sounds are good and it advises you where to place your pencil/pen as an initial point in order to scribe.

Using the screen instead of plain paper is a clear case of how to make an easy job difficult.

The 'FREE 'bit is very limited. No vowels -no tests etc.

I am still struggling to find the upgrade app.

As it stands for me (I learned the regular way.) It does have the benefit to serve as an aid memoir for those consonants that are rarely used

Yes, the vowels are in the paid version when they release that, as I don't think they have released that yet.

But the exams for all included lessons works well for me, so I'm not sure why you think the exams aren't there. They aren't there for the vowels of course.

I will email them to ask for move to sd, as yes that's useful on my budget handset, which is limited on space.

As for the groupings of letters, the help file says that they are grouped by complexity, to help the learning process (start easy and get gradually harder). As it's a writing teacher I think it works well.

I'm most of the way through the free version, so I'm hoping they release the paid version soon, as it's pretty useful. I like the fact that I can always have a go for a few minutes, without the need to find pen and paper, although my handwriting suffers a little on screen.

I'm hoping they keep going with it and keep it updated with new functions etc. I guess that depends on enough people downloading and buying it though...

  • 3 weeks later...

is it available as a iphone app ?

I like it. I downloaded some reading apps recently, so this is a good addition.

Sent from my shoe phone

The Benjawan Poomsan Becker books teach this and the woman is a Thai... Hence the name ;)
