A Norwegian friend of mine was turned down for an extension to his Non Imm O-A (retirement) visa the other day because he had not had a series of blood tests.

The Immigration Office said he needed them to prove he didn't have a whole series of diseases (including elehantiasis and TB) and wasn't a drug or alcohol addict. They refused to accept the medical certificate from a local hospital which he had found perfectly acceptable in previous years. To get this, he simply said Hi to the doctor, had his blood pressure taken and paid 30 baht.

He pointed this out to the immigration official concerned, who insisted that he go back to the hospital and get blood tests. This he duly did. The hospital said they had not heard about any change to the medical requirements, but turned around his samples in 24 hours (which I can only assume meant they stuck them in the fridge overnight) and gave him a new cert saying his blood was clean. The visa was then stamped by the Hua Hin people.

Anybody else run into this problem - or is it just Royal Hua Hin trying to show that it can outdo every other immigration office in sheer bloodymindedness?

It has always struck me as odd that retirees and WP holders need a

medical, but those married to Thai spouses do not.

TIT I guess. :o

For me it was the doctor who insisted I had the blood test done (3 hours turnaround) 120 baht at a blood test 'center'

He also insisted on a X-ray at another place for 150 baht

Certificate itself at 80 baht

Took me a whole sunday morning

It seemed that it was the first time he did a med cert for immigration

Yes, I also have to make bloodtest and x - ray. It is because the doctor has to confirm you are free of leprosy, tuberculosis (T.:o, elephantiasis, drug addiction and third step of syphilis.

Yeah, right...

I have got some from the doctors without even seeing the doctor - just paying the receptionist 30 baht. Near Victory monument.

This was when I was in fact suffering from one of the diseases in question - 'dtit suraa rua rang'

Actually he's pretty accurate. 14 years getting one for my work at CMU and everytime it's - blood pressure, see the doctor who asks if I feel ok, then signs the form. Not exaggerating at all.

Perhaps they suspected the Norwegian was suffering from the same condition as you?

Btw, I do not think a simple blood test is conclusive for alcoholism... :o

Well done; I think that they should must require the Hiv test too. If you have the aids, go out of the country.

Because about 20 / 25 years ago ,the HIV was unknown in Thailand , the western tourists carried it, in the country, infecting the thai girls .

But now if the tourist go back in his home country and if he has got the virus during his holiday, somebody will say :” look; him….. He has come back from Thailand and has taken the virus.”

The western media carry on getting those changes for throw shit on this country.

So I think that who has the HIV or other venues illnesses it’s right to prevent them to live in Thailand.

My post would be seem discriminatory for someone, and I regret for this , but I love this country and his people, and so, I became very enraged when I hear the western people talking bad, about the Thailand.

By your logic you would prohibit an HIV-infected Thai-non-Thai married couple living together. Not very nice. (I presume it was effective lobbying that stopped HIV-infected people being barred ipso facto from coming to the UK.)

I also fail to see the logic that if you contract TB in Thailand you should be expelled from Thailand.

Your logic calls for having HIV test at Bangkok airport for ALL incoming passengers. Not only the long term residents applying for extension of visa stay.

What about my mate with HIV?

He came to thailand 21 years ago and contracted it.

HE has a big family here now, should he be kicked out?

Of course not.

A strange post since the HIV infection rate in Thailand is way, way higher than any Farang country. I guess this is the "Ostrich Syndrome", often practiced here !

Like the bike riders who do'nt look right when entering a main road. :D:D:D

Sorry ... But your Karma will not pay your hospital bills ... or worse. :o

Naka.

Don't tell me, you live in either Disney World or Never, Never Land? :D

I become enraged when I see ignorant people like you who want to censor what people say.

Western media sometimes gets it right :D I also think that all Thai people with HIV should be locked up! Scrote. :o\
