What To Do For Smart Phone Service Provider?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I recently bought a Samsung Galaxy s2. And i'm looking at the best possible service that suits my needs. I'm currently with dtac, had an iphone 1, and pay 800 baht a month for talk minutes and edge service. I hardly every talk on the phone, maybe a few minutes with the wife every other day.. and i haven't used the edge in 6 months cause i have wifi and the edge service is too dam_n slow.

I see two options....

Get a new package with dtac.... there are 2, one for 699b and 899b that offer 3g for 1gb/3gb plus a bunch of minutes. But i don't need the minutes.....

or

Pre-paid with happy dtac...... seems to be cheaper but i have no idea how to go about setting it up..... also do i lose my current number?

I see a cheaper internet packages..... so seems a solid option...

Is 1 gb enough for a casual user or should i be safe and go with 3?

input would be appreciated....

Afaik the same packages are available on both DTAC and Happy - you shouldn't need to give up your postpaid account & number just to get internet.

Of course from the 938 "packages" available at any given time it can get confusing, and of course they'll try to push minutes and sms's on you... OK there's not 938 packages I was being sarcastic, but there's definitely more than 2, you should be able to get one that's only a data bundle without all the other fluff...

As for your data question - start with 1Gb and if you find you're consuming it early, upgrade it to 3. Just make sure they don't put you on a bundle that reverts to "per megabyte" pricing if you finish it, especially on a postpaid account.

The only issue with the 1 GB Happy (pre-paid) plan is that the fair-use speed limit is 64 Kbps, which means that once you've uploaded/downloaded 1 GB your speed will drop to 64 Kbps which is a lot lower than you might like? The 3GB plan has a fair-use speed limit of 384 kbps. You must cancel the 1GB plan before you can re-subscribe to the 3 GB plan.

I assume you have DTAC 3G coverage in the areas you live/frequent?

You can transition from a DTAC post-paid account to a Happy pre-paid account, and keep your same number. You will have to go to a full service DTAC shop to make this change.

Dtac has internet SIM Plan for postpaid. The price is 399Bt and you get 1GB of Internet and no Bundled minutes on voice. I think on this pack the FUP is also 384kbps unlike the normal 399Bt pack in which the FUP speed is down to 64Kbps.

Unfortunately the FUP speed on the post-paid 1 GB/399 package is 64 Kbps.

I was wondering if 1gb was enough before signing up to the 399 dtac. Found an app that measures usage and I average 300mb a month.

I do have internet at work and home for my main use but I keep wifi off on the phone to save battery.

Bit of browsing, emails etc should be fine. Watching videos could eat it up.

If you average 300 MB per month then 1 GB per month should suffice? Am I missing something? 1 GB = 1,024 MB; 1,024 > 300.

FWIW, the 3G radio may use more power than the WiFi radio, but this can be heavily software, firmware, hardware dependent.

Could you recommend an App for my Galaxy Note that will monitor talk time, 3g and wifi usage. Maybe need two different Apps thanks
