Hi, I will shortly be arriving in Thailand on a non-immigrant visa (ED). I want to buiy a motor scooter and get a Thai licence. I understand that as part of the requirements I need a certificate of residence from either the Immigration Department or my (Australian) Embassy. I am proposing to get it from the Embassy. I understand that essentially I need to make a statutory declataion before an embassy official. Does anyone know what the contents of this should be? ie should it simply state my residence in Thailand? Can anyone provide me with a proforma version that has worked previously?

Because my stat dec will be made in English, do I need a Thai translation and where can I get this done?

I already own a condo in Cha Am and I have a blue book for that - is this satisfactory?

If I do need to get the certificate from the Dept of Immigration, can someone please advise me which one is closest? How long does this generally take?

Thanks in anticipation.

Same Immigration Office that you will use for your 90 day report ? I would guess that you would use Immigration in Hua Hin

Since you say you own a condo then you should have a utility bill with your name and address on it, which Immigration will want a copy of before they will issue you a Certificate of Residence that you need to apply for a Thai Drivers license. BUT each Immigration Office is different when it comes to issuing a Certificate of Residence so go and ask what they want and how much it will cost ( in Pattaya it is 200 THB per certificate). As stated by harry if you use your embassy it will cost you substantially more money

I think you are not mentioned in the blue book, only as the owner of the condo, but not as living there. You can try to get a yellow tabien baan from the amphur, which will list you as living there.

Maybe the blue book alone will be accepted for registering the motor, otherwise you can try to get the yellow book from the amphur and that should be accepted as proof of address.

Thanks to you all - this is very helpful. I do not get a separate bill for power or water costs for my condo (but periodically get a bill from condo management - I think they just split it among all of the condos in the building on some pro rata basis. So I will probably get the certificate from the embassy. But because this will be made in English, do I need to get this translated before I get a Thai motorbbike licence and buy a motorbike and if I doi need to do this, can someone suggest where I can get this done and how much it would cost?

Thanks in anticipation
