SRINAGAR, INDIA (BNO NEWS) -- An overloaded passenger bus overturned in India's northern state of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, killing at least two people and injuring dozens more, local authorities said on Thursday.

The accident occurred when the driver of the bus was taking a sharp turn near the village of Dadwompora in central Badgam district, not far from Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, when the bus flipped over and ended upside down.

Police officials told the Indo-Asian News Service (IANS) that 39 people were injured and rushed to local hospitals as a result of the Srinagar-bound bus accident. Two of those injured later died at a hospital, the agency reported, while several others remain seriously injured.
