webfact
Four complaints aimed at dissolving Pheu Thai Party The Nation BANGKOK: - The Election Commission has completed one check and is investigating three other complaints which can lead to the disbandment of the Pheu Thai Party. The EC-appointed panel is writing the report on the first case and will soon forward it for the final review by EC chairman Suchart Sukkagganond in his concurrent capacity as the political party registrar. The case deals with the allegation that the ruling party has allowed former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra to exert influence over it despite his five-year ban from the political process. The party's campaign slogan in the July general election, "Thaksin thinks, Pheu Thai acts", has been cited as evidence of Thaksin's pulling strings in the party. Since 2008, some 29 complaints had been lodged seeking to disband political parties. The EC ruled to dismiss 15 complaints while the other 14 remain under investigation. Suchart has subsequently ordered the 14 complaints to be merged into seven active cases. Of the seven cases, the Pheu Thai Party is the target in four. Among three ongoing cases involving Pheu Thai, one is about the allegedly wrongful endorsement for two election candidates, Natthawut Saikua and Kokaew Pikulthong. The other is about the allegedly wrongful endorsement of election candidate Jatuporn Promphan despite his remand detention. This case is a fallout from the general election and not related to the last week's verdict to strip Jatuporn of his MP status. The third and final case is about Pheu Thai's involvement in charter change. People's Alliance for Democracy leader Chamlong Srimuang contends the push as unlawful because it tantamounts to discarding the Constitution. The Democrat Party faces three complaints on disbandment. The first case is about campaigning offence by promising favours to sway votes. The second case is about the Pheu Thai's allegation that the Democrats have incited the people to oppose charter change. The third case is about a Bt1 million flood donation to the Democrats exceeding the campaign limit. -- The Nation 2012-05-
Popular Post OzMick
Well this should be interesting. I'd bet the Red Choir are already practicing............"Judicial coup, judicial coup, judicial coup." I have long wondered why the Thaksin involvement case was not lodged, and it's hard to refute except by a maroon. Similarly, exactly why PTP put forward party list candidates facing very serious criminal charges. Actually I know why, but thought that was not acceptable conduct. And now the Democrat charges, making campaign promises (and getting outbid), inciting people to oppose a government move (the job of the opposition?) and accepting a large flood donation (was there a campaign? Is a flood donation via a political party, probably because they didn't trust the government, classed as a campaign donation?)
hellodolly
And the band played on. Even a moron knows Thaksin interfered in the PT politics. Will it get the PT disbanded not a chance. If that were to ever happen Thaksin would immediately stop distancing himself from the red shirts and the money tap would be turned on.
TomTao
What if scenario.......what if the election commission found just cause to suspend or disband either the PTP or Democrats, or both, what a pretty mess that would make on the political landscape, who would step in to fill the void? Who would be caretaker till new parties could be formed? What would the reaction be from the respective parties followers?

Popular Post ramrod711
Here we go again. The way that the government is performing and the dissatisfaction that the red shirts are expressing with them, they might consider these charges to be a boon. They don't have to defend their record, just point to the fact that yet another elected government may fall to the courts. The best way to get rid of these people is to let them continue to govern.
drdoom6996
The people I know did not ever need to be incited about the charter change. They believe PTP is the problem with the charter change and they should be punished. I don't know. What I do know is many thais did not vote at all in the last election. I think that will not be the case in the next election. I hope I am wrong for all you Reds. And I hope I am right for Thailand. People don't pay attention anywhere though. They will probably elect that idiot in America again.

noitom
Whatever happened to that case of the PM Yingluck's minister Nalinee Taveesin? She was the one indicated by various sources and messages to and from the US Ambassador to Zimbabwe as being heavily involved in assisting Robert Mgabe of laundering blood diamonds while on visits to Thailand. http://www.vancouversun.com/business/Blacklisted+Robert+Mugabe+crony+named+Thai+cabinet/6071536/story.html When The Nation was doing news on this, it was interesting to follow. Then it just dropped. Why would the newspaper just drop a story like this without further investigation to clarify? What is the status of the "blacklisting" of this Thai government minister?
