Yingluck Explains Absence

Must admit it looks really sad that photo of the mother receving the cheque.

As other have said it is as if she had won a prize, not compensation for the loss of a daughter. Surely discreet and with respect for the family would have been less painful for her.

I wonder if they will ask her what she is going to do with her "winnings" like they do lottery winners

This is another of those strange Thai things I can't get my head around like the graphic pictures they love to show of victms of accidents or crimes. This kind of thing should be private and dignified not a PR show.

I would like to think Yingluck found it too distasteful to attend but somehow I doubt that was the reason.

Only when someone wins the PGA or lotto....

Govt compensation met with anger, sadness

Late nurse's mother accepts payment after Yongyuth agrees to let her take case to court

I feel so sorry for this woman. There is true pain in her and then the PTP assemble a compensation ceremony that resembles a lotto or charity event. Absolute shame on them. If they have been paid 7.5 Million why is the cheque for 3.25 Million?

Regarding all the references to lottery..... that's exactly what they got (in addition to the checks)

Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Yongyuth Wichaidit hands a ceremonial check and a ceremonial lottery ticket from the Government Savings Bank to one of the recipients.

If they have been paid 7.5 Million why is the cheque for 3.25 Million? The sad fact of the matter is that just as this woman's poor daughter died because of the selfish ego of a megalomaniac, she herself now suffers at the hands of the megalomaniac's sister who sticks the final knife in with another display of absolute selfishness and to top it all a party that tries to score political advantage with a photo shoot. I am unsure how much lower Thai politics can sink. Disgusting!

What a circus, all that was missing was a clown, but she was at a business meeting.

They died for her brothers cause and she does not give the respect to show at the "We sill make you rich ceremony"? I would think this could upset some people.

It was reported her absence was due to "had to attend to urgent business in Chiang Mai".... ohmy.png

which consisted of her visiting a conservation project. rolleyes.gif

From the original thread:

Reason given now for breaking her schedule and instead skipping the 3:30pm payment ceremony is in order for her to visit a conservation project in Chiang Mai. sleepy.gif

The ceremony, held yesterday at Government House, was presided over by Yongyuth on behalf of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, who had to attend to urgent business in Chiang Mai.

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said she did not attend the ceremony held yesterday to present compensation to victims of political unrest, because she was tending to business outside Bangkok, and not because she was trying to avoid legal responsibility that comes with the payment as widely speculated.

When the government hands out the cheques, when Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Yongyuth Wichaidit presides over the ceremony, how would the PM staying away avoid her (government's) responsability?

Busniess is more important than the Country and it´s people. The PM does what her BB tells her to do.

While Yongyuth was handing out checks and lottery tickets on stage in Bangkok, Yingluck was busy herself 600 kilometers away with "urgent business" in Chiang Mai handing out woven baskets on stage at a nature conservation project.

Shaking head in amazement.

Unbelievable,

Is there just a chance she has a hearing problem.... they said raffia donations.

Must be an ear infection thing, quite contagious I believe.

Why did Yingluck avoid the compensation ceremony? It looks as if her handlers are feeling that she is very vulnerable while to us, the outsiders, it looks like she can do no wrong and people will love her regardless. Who is mistaken here? Her advisors? Or have we been duped by multiple polls proving Yinglucks' invincibility and PTP is really really scared that one little ceremony can bring down the whole house (of cards, perhaps?).

>>>>

Did they guy who tried to throw a bomb at Bangkok Bank building but blew off his legs instead get the check, too? Democrats suggested he's qualified but did it really happen?

>>>

This is all coming too fast. Only a week ago Thaksin told reds to pack up and go (row their boats) home and they still can't come to grips with that, and now the govt gives them money in exchange for dropping their quest for justice.

Yeah, they let mother of Kamolkaed continue her quest for finding the killer but the rest of the lot should shut their pie holes and never talk about injustice again. They even waied for that right to give up red ideals.

Last week it was a nazi t-shirt, this week it's the wai for giving money in exchange for silence.

Ginnie's out of the bottle, huh? Ginnie's an alcoholic and will never stay too far from his bottle, don't worry about that.

>>>

Any of the yellows showed up yesterday? From the news it appeared they were not averse to compensation, too, but how many of them actually took the money and did they have sign the waiver, too? Facing with millions I'm not expecting them to pass on the opportunity, and also what does taking money from PTP do to their principles?

She just went to another photo ops.

Yes, that's obvious, but why? Why did she distance herself from the compensation ceremony? Is it really that threatening to her position legally? Or morally?

If the answer is - she considers it's not morally appropriate, then I salute her. She is pretty useless as chief executive but she sends the right message most of the time.

The policy details don't really matter that much comparing to the standards, moral in this case, to follow for the rest of the country.

looking back over the thread....maybe i was wrong, have you really not seen this outside of thailand???

Only when someone wins the PGA or lotto....

or donates to charity, or to victims of crime?

Yes charity as a fob for PR/Advertising, but I have never seen a compensation cheque for a dead daughter given in such a shamelessly self promoting way

The govt. needs to send a clear message to the reds: next time we call on you these lottery style payouts are whet you can expect if you're hurt or worse. Sadly it's going to work.

Democrat MP for Rayong Sathit Pitutecha threatened to file a complaint with the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) because he said the compensation was an illegitimate expenditure of taxpayer's money.

MP Sathit followed through today and submitted a request to the NACC to investigate Yingluck and her Cabinet over the compensation payments.

His petition to the NACC was received by NACC Secretary-General Apinan Issarangkura na Ayutthaya, who will now determine whether to accept it for consideration.

The NACC is being asked to see if they violated Article 157 of the Criminal Code for abusing their authority by creating Cabinet resolutions without passing the appropriate laws beforehand.
