TEHRAN, IRAN (BNO NEWS) -- Security services in northeastern Iran have arrested a man who allegedly worked for the intelligence agency of an Arab state, state-run media reported on Monday. Weapons and ammunition were also seized during the operation.

Iran's Fars News Agency said the suspect was arrested while President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was visiting the city of Sabzevar, located in Razavi Khorasan province which borders Turkmenistan and Afghanistan. He was caught after he penetrated the protected landing area of Ahmadinejad's helicopter.

"A person with known identity who is linked with the spy service of an Arab state has been arrested by the Sabzevar Corps," the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said in a statement, as quoted by Fars. "During interrogations, the arrested individual has confessed to his links with the citizens of an Arab country and transfer of sensitive information to them."

The statement added that security forces also discovered and seized a cache of ammunition, weapons and military and telecommunication tools and equipment. The report did not provide other details, including the suspect's nationality or the Arab country the man is accused to have been working for.

Iran has repeatedly accused the United States and Israel of spying on its military and nuclear programs.

An Iranian court in January sentenced 28-year-old Amir Mirzai Hekmati, who was born in Arizona but is of Iranian descent, to death on charges that he worked for the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Hekmati's family has insisted that he is not a spy and was simply visiting his grandmother. Iran's Supreme Court overturned the death sentence in March and ordered a retrial.

Just a reminder that it's not just the Americans and Israelis who oppose the current Iranian regime.

You'd be surprised how many people on this forum don't know that the Gulf Arabs don't care too much for the Persians on the other side of the "Arabian" Gulf and would love it if the Israelis or Americans bombed them out of the nuclear age.
