ACCRA, GHANA (BNO NEWS) -- A large cargo plane crashed in the Ghanaian capital of Accra on early Saturday evening after departing a nearby airport, witnesses and airport officials said. A local radio journalist reported seeing many bodies at the scene.

The accident happened just before 7:15 p.m. local time when the aircraft went down near the El-Wak sports stadium in Accra, the capital of Ghana. It had departed Kotoka International Airport moments earlier. It was not immediately clear how many people were on board.

A Joy FM journalist speaking from the scene of the crash reported seeing 'many bodies', but gave no other details. The local radio station said the aircraft belonged to 'Allied Air Cargo' and struck a number of vehicles when it went down. Images from the scene showed a large aircraft on the ground.
