Suranand appointed PM's secretary general

The Nation

BANGKOK: -- The Cabinet on Tuesday approved two key appointments, including the position of Prime Minister's secretary general filled by Suranand Vejjajiva.

Suranand was the PM's Office minister in the Thaksin Shinawatra administration. He was also one of the 111 Thai Rak Thai executives who just saw the expiry of their five-year political ban on May 30.

Freed from the ban, he had already sought and received the membership of the ruling Pheu Thai Party.

Since last year, he worked behind the scenes to screen the work agendas for Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra. He played a prominent role in defending the prime minister's performance on flood control. In March, he served as personal spokesman for Yingluck.

As secretary general to the prime minister, he is expected to supervise the policy implementation and act as the troubleshooter for the government.

In another appointment, the Cabinet named former Thai Rak Thai MP Sansanee Nakpong as the government spokeswoman.

Sansanee was a popular news anchorwoman before entering politics. She was elected MP for Bangkok's Bang Na constituency in 2001. Due to the redrawing of voting zone, she lost her reelection bid in 2007. She did not contest the last general election.

In another appointment, the Cabinet named former Thai Rak Thai MP Sansanee Nakpong as the government spokeswoman.

So Sansanee is now the current government's spokeswoman.

Seems very apropos as she used to be Thaksin's personal spokeswoman.

and so it just confirms they are both same, same...

at least she's good for some memorable guffaws...

Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra did not plan to seek a political asylum abroad and he did not cry following the conviction ruling against his wife, his personal spokeswoman said Friday.

Sansanee Nakpong said Thaksin would return to Thailand on either August 9 or 10 and would not remain overseas to escape court cases.

She said Thaksin insisted to defend himself in court in all cases.

"Thaksin is in great spirit and did not cry as reports. I was there with him yesterday," the spokeswoman said.

Surely If Suranand has been working behind the scenes as Yinglucks advisor then he has been in breach of the political ban along with most if not all of the rest of them. Barnhan. Newin. etc

Indeed, and now it's been three August's and still counting since her comment.

I always laugh when I read about him not crying over Potjaman being sentenced to go to prison.... as he ended up divorcing her just two months later.

.

Divorced or not they work well together. There are a lot reports of Potjaman being very active in the background....Filling every position with a family member.

Would be interesting if there is somewhere a white sheep in this black sheep family.....

Is this a new position aka "jobs for the boys." How did she manage without a Secretary General for 9 months?

Why does the government need a paid spokesman, can't their MPs speak? Why can't one of the party list with no constituency to service be given this position?
