Khun Yuam Near Mae Hong Son: Ww Ii Museum

WW II museum, anybody been there, is it worth a visit?

It's worth calling in if you're passing. Not sure if I'd drive all the way from CM just to see it. When I visited, a couple of years ago, it was fairly disorganised, with very few signs/labels, all in Thai I think. Basically just a collection of what the Japanese soldiers stationed in the area left behind, but the video was quite interesting. Last time I passed by it seemed they were expanding, so not sure what other changes made.

Edit, to add: if you do drive there, the shortest, fastest way is over Doi Intanon, via Mae Chaem. Pretty good road all the way these days. About 4.5 hours from CM.

The video is all about how wonderful the Japanese were to the Thais and a story about how a Japanese soldier 'married' a thai woman then went back to Japan and never saw her again and how she pined for him. Being a Brit I found the video a little unpleasant. Otherwise, rusting guns, vehicles etc. There is a resident Thai to take ( a little) money off you. OK for a break in a journey. There is also the remains of the airstrip still evident.

I have found it to be closed each time I have stopped. As stated above, it may be worth a visit if you are in the area, but if you are going just for the museum I would try and find some type of schedule for their operating hours.
