Hey all. I live in Chiang Mai as a student (I'm canadian). My 90 day non-immigrant visa expires soon and the school was supposed to issue me a student visa. Unfortunately, all the first year masters students (myself included) have not been able to register due to curriculum changes which must approved by the board in bkk. As a result, I must make my first visa run. I will go to Laos for an afternoon and I will bring my passport. I believe it is also a 50$ visa on arrival fee as well. by entering into Laos and then re-entering back into Thailand, will that give me another 30 day extension? I just want to make sure I can do this properly or else I will be in trouble.

Thanks for your help

The cost varies by nationality but $35 seems to be the most cited. You will only receive 15 days visa exempt entry unless you fly back from Laos. If you want longer a tourist visa will require an overnight stay in Vientiane or Savannakhet and an extra 1,000 baht.
