Fruit Trees,What To Buy And Where Is A Good Source

Recommended Posts

Our farmlet near Mukdahan has been tilled and is now ready for planting fruit trees, and see if we can make some pennies

Firstly does anyone have recommendations as to what are most popular fruit species and those sought after by buyers.

Locals in the area seem not to know where trees are available, except rubber..There was a suggestion of UBON,and another

Poi Et. Next i guess, what sort of prices are being asked.?

ANY ADVICE WOULD BE APPRECIATED. Thanks

Must be a barren waste land around you, can drive down any main road in these parts and see plant nurseries, Don't think there is much return on fruit trees unless you are big time. If small time plant a variety of trees that produce at different times of year and get a local market stall and pick up to drive around selling. You will make Thai money, which is not much.

Have some trees myself and end up giving away the fruit that has not been taken by the roaming masses. . Jim

Even the small towns in Thailand usually have a nursery or two, as James says. Plan what you want to eat, and if you find you have a surplus, try to sell it. But Thai villagers tend to think fruit is theirs for the picking... unless it is something unusual (our mangoes vanish like nobody's business, but dragon fruit (the expensive one with red flesh) is left untouched). Bananas grow with no effort at all, and the surplus can be sold from any shop.

We have a minimart, which is a ready outlet for anything we have to spare.

As you have been told; you will not make much money but it's fun.

Pick trees according to your soil & weather & expected market.

Find out what sells in your local area; not what's popular on the internet

Absolute best area to buy fruit trees in Isaan; is around Pak Chong's many nurseries and the agricultural station.

Local markets sell inferior trees with poor grafting, do not buy.

Good luck.
