Not sure how many people have noticed that the large canal through Chiang Mai has been empty for the last two months as several maintenance projects and and new canal walls are completed. The irrigation workers up here in Mae Taeng where the canal originates (from the Mae Taeng River) tell us that they plan on opening the gates to it on 15 June. Doesn't appear to me that all the projects are complete but I do know the rice farmers are anxious to get their planting done soon.

Interesting to know TD. I noticed yesterday the canal had a little more brown water than green, though still not flowing anywhere. Must be a top breeding ground for mozzies ... roll on Friday. :)

They moo ban had a makro widening the klongs around Pa Muat in San Sai today as most of the rice has been harvested (probably everyone but me but we're doing it by hand). As we hurried to finish up as the machine approached our land the track went flying off. Karma to let us finish I'm sure. Perhaps they are trying to get it done before tomorrows opening.

As of 6 PM today, the canal up here in Mae Taeng was flowing and very full. Had hoped to see the initial wave but was a bit late.

Junglechef... If you are on the east side of the Ping River and HWY 107, you are probably on the canal that is fed from the Ping River and not from the Mae Taeng RIver. I don't know how the flow is on that side, but the canal next to the mountains on the west side is flowing very full.
