BEVERLY HILLS, CALIFORNIA (BNO NEWS) -- Canadian-American actress Ann Rutherford, who is perhaps best known for her role in the 1930s movie 'Gone with the Wind', died at her home in California on late Monday, a close friend told a newspaper on Tuesday. She was 94.

Close friend and fellow actress Anne Jeffreys told the Los Angeles Times that Rutherford passed away at her home in Beverly Hills on late Monday evening. She had been in declining health due to heart problems, but other details about her condition and illness were not released.

Rutherford, who was born in the Canadian city of Vancouver, is probably best remembered for her role as Scarlett O'Hara's sister in the 1939s movie 'Gone with the Wind,' although she appeared in more than 60 movies throughout her lengthy acting career in film, radio and television.

Rutherford also starred in MGM's film series which features the Andy Hardy fictional character, in which she portrayed Andy Hardy's young girlfriend Polly Benedict. She played Polly twelve times, with the last appearance in 'Andy Hardy's Double Life' in 1942. Her other work includes 'The Bob Newhart Show', 'The Secret Life of Walter Mitty', and 'Won Ton Ton, the Dog Who Saved Hollywood.'

Throughout her acting career, Rutherford received a number of awards, including the Golden Boot Award in 1988. She was also inducted to the Hollywood Walk of Fame in February 1960 with 2 stars.
