LONDON: -- Sir Paul McCartney turns 70 on Monday, a jubilee that is expected to be a low-key event which will see the former Beatle host a party for family and close friends in London later in the day.

McCartney fans, for their part, plan to organize a party at the Cavern rock and roll club in Liverpool, where the Beatles began their rise to international prominence in the early 1960s.

After the birthday celebrations, McCartney will get down to work. He has recently been chosen to perform at the opening ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympics in London on July 27.
