About a year ago I was riding up to Mae Sot from BKK and somewhere around Kamphaeng Phet I waved to an oncoming rider on a large cruiser, as I would usually do.

Later that evening, my GF asked me who it was that I had waved to. I didn't know what she was talking about at first and couldn't recall waving to anyone, but then I suddenly remembered and just told her that I didn't know who it was. She asked me why I waved to him then.

"It's just something that we do." I replied. "If I saw someone with a big bike that had a problem I would stop and help them. Same if they saw me if I had a probelm, they would stop and help me. Anyone with a big bike are just same a friend."

Luckily I didn't have to try and further explain to her about 'The Wave' and why other motorists, and young Thai m/cer's too, don't acknowledge each other.

I do the same, just comes natural.

Rigger, I got used to the break after a couple of days and don't really care anyway. I'll never be PC and could give a rats a$$ what a few people that have their PC head upem think . Heck, I like to think I'm a pretty level headed guy. and always

If it was a sweet little Thai girl that was having trouble sure I would stop but if it was someone like Peaceblonde I would keep riding . If I saw a falang having trouble I would stop and try and help no matter what he was riding

It not quite the same with the smaller bikes as most here in Thailand ride smaller bikes for transportation not for the love of bikes so I don’t feel that there is much of a feeling that you are helping out a fellow bike lover

With regard to Harley riders, you will never get any sort of recognition from them, they are too busy practising "the look" (or grimace!).

Not that you need it, though....sabaii, sabaii.

I have found all riders up here in the northeast wave harley riders included.

With regard to Harley riders, you will never get any sort of recognition from them, they are too busy practising "the look" (or grimace!).

I'll wave at most any other rider,even locals that give u the thumbs up at a red light. Don't know where u ride Bung but most HD riders do the same.

I think your maybe feeling a little insecure if you see faces with with"look". No doubt we ride with pride on our faces. Or maybe it's from the vibration on some of the older bikes or the pipes are too loud and we're grimacing. LOL

In the bad old day's in Aussie, when you raised the topic of Harley riders not waving back you would get all sorts of comments and I was expecting more of a rise from you guy's but your right, everyone is easy going here and why not, life is good for most of us with time for the finer things in life

I've been guilty of not returning waves mostly because I was hanging on for grim death! Probably had some wierd look on my mug......A cross between sheer terror and excitement maybe.

I'm saddling up again for the first time in 10 years (mrs wave doesn't count) Probably ride a bit slower now and enjoy the scenery.....

I guess you guy's have to shout at each other when you park up from deafness though? (or is it age?)

I haven't ridden it yet! I'm still officially a honda wave rider, how sad is that?

BMW's? - I used to give them more s##t than harley riders!

Bung, don't know what sh1t you could sling on BMWs as it's a great bike. I use to have a R90S (900 Sport), loved that bike for long hauls, smooth as all he11 and could sit on 100mph+ all day without a worry.

Don't worry, I love r90s'. They have dellorto carbs! (I'm a mad 70's italian v twin nut)

I was refering to the stereotypical bmw rider more than the bikes. You may know them, anoraks is what the brits call them. Beleive me, I have seen it, I just bought one and if you look at their forums you will know what I mean. There would be pages on what kind of washer to use......

BMW are great bikes and have real stepped up the pace with there new line of dirt and sports bikes (Superb) but for many BMW still brings a stereo type of a old mans bike or a great lump of a dirt bike. The F650 Bung has got would be a great all-rounder

We had to get-

International license

malaysian registration and insurance.

I forgot about the practice of waving to other riders. Somchai and Pongsaporn don't wave; they're on a Honda Wave! I didn't always do it in urban American traffic, but on the open road, of course. However, we wouldn't have waved to a Honda Dream 110 with three riders on the back!

Nobody waves me! But then, I'm PeaceBlondie.

On the road in the USA, the Harley riders were always the friendliest. I even went to Sturgis 1985, the only Yamaha in Sturgis, and didn't get criticized. On the way back from Sturgis, I broke down in the same sleepy county seat town in central Texas as a Harley Sportster rider, who had all the leather, chains, and regalia. A week later, he dropped by (having rented a trailer and carried both our bikes back to Houston). He had on checkered shorts, a monogrammed Polo shirt, and a girlfriend named - Buffy!.....or maybe she was Muffy.........
