Apologies if I'm posting in the wrong place. My husband needs to see a doctor, not emergency but consultation. Can anyone recommend a doctor who speaks good English in central Chiang Mai (we're in the Chang Klan area) and what should he expect to pay? Thanks.

I am in the Changklan area but I prefer Doctor Morgan out towards Hang Dong.

There is a clinic on Loi Kroh road with a good doctor there. He has his own lab but be prepared to wait as the line can get long some times.

He is closer to the moat than the Night Bazaar on the south side of the street. He is on a corner. Sorry I can not be more precise

I have no idea of how much 200 baht perhaps. I am sure some one will be along with a better idea of the cost for a consultation.

hellodolly is probably referring to this doctor at the corner of Soi 3. Coordinates 18°47'3" N, 98°59'47" E. google-maps/street-view: http://maps.google.d...,239.31,,0,4.93

I don't have any personal experience with this doctor , I turned away when I saw the waiting crowd. But an Australian friend is using this clinic every time it is necessary

Dr.Tawachai at the clinic above, is extremely knowledgeable - more than most. The only problem is that his clinic can get crowded, Go about 1115 as it's winding down and you'll find he will give you more time.

Is this the 'famous' Dr. Mai pen rai?

Don't know about that Semper, but he's been around for a very long time and I believe really knows his stuff. The trouble is that his surgery gets crammed with sickly looking Thai girls (and boys), who appear to be dying from a common cold so his time is restricted. They look better when the nurse gives them a bunch of smarties to take three times a day. I try to avoid all that and call him personally, to see when he might have more time. If you can super glue him to the chair for 15 minutes of longer, you will see he's a wealth of information and can usually make a correct diagnosis. He's also very good with 'hands on' stuff like biopsying a lesion, no pain and fine stitches. I currently use Dr. Morgan who I like very much as she generally has more time with her appointment system. I don't think she yet has all the knowledge of Dr Tawachai, but he's far older of course and also she doesn't do any cutting or stitching, I think she sends people over to Klaimor. However, I really like her and we're lucky to have her.

Nor sure if that answers your question? unsure.png

For whatever it is worth to others, my missus had severe stomach pains overnight so took her to a hospital in Nonghoy where the doctor diagnosed her as having wind/gas and gave her some anti-fltulence tablets. I thought OK, if just the pain but how did that account for the accompanying fever. He did not do the rebound test on ger at all. Next day pain had reduceded but not the fever, I wasn't happy with the first diagnosis so took her to Ram where they immdiately started testing for appendicitis. She then had the appendix removed that night.

Ram ain't cheap, however they got the diagnosis right with a surgeon brought in for another opinion. I think most here know that a burst appendix can often be fatal, and I really can't see even an intern should be missing that one, the fever was indicating an infection and that can't be bloody gas.
